The Maurachalm mountain pasture hut can be reached with the funicular from St. Johann-Alpendorf via the Buchauhütte hut and the Gernkogelalm mountain pasture and then going in the direction of the Sonntagskogel peak in approx. 1.5 hours.

The Maurachalm mountain pasture hut is the most northerly mountain pasture hut serving food in the Großarltal valley. The dairy farming hosts are happy to pamper you with home-made specialities such as milk, buttermilk, cheese, bacon, farmer’s bread and in particular different sorts of fine Schnapps, such as elder and rowanberry.

They love to sing and make music. For children there’s a play area and at the end of September you can see the bringing down of the animals from the high pastures with decorated animals.
